Maximize Your CRM Implementation Success: Essential Preparation Tips
Preparing for your CRM implementation can save you lots of money and time!
A CRM implementation is, though, a lot of work, and it never turns out the way you had initially envisioned it.
No wonder the chance of success can be as low as 20%, depending on your chosen tool.
One of the most common pitfalls in CRM implementation is the lack of thorough preparation.
Many companies make the mistake of relying solely on external agencies, failing to realise their crucial role in the process.
An agency is excellent for execution. However, the agency doesn't always know your business well and will have difficulty making a solution design (CRM-setup design) that will match your needs without proper input.
So you need to prep!
To maximise your chance of success. Spent some time interviewing your stakeholders in detail.
What do they need from a functional perspective? Ensure they describe their functional needs and not a feature they use now.
What do they need from a security perspective? Ensure to cover the essentials, such as user rights, SSO/RBAC, data visibility, etc.
What do they need from a compliance perspective? What data can be loaded in the CRM? What consent processes do you need?
When you have done these interviews, make sure to type all of your findings on paper in detail. This is your so-called "Requirements Overview."
This is work and will take some time, but it has a huge benefit: It will allow you to return to your interviewees and show them the result of their input.
That's where the magic happens because they will see the holes and give you even more input. It will also show whether you have internal conflicts that need to be solved before you start implementing.
For example, sales reps might want information that cannot be displayed for compliance reasons.
After that, you'll have a fantastic document for your agency to build upon. They will immediately be able to start on a solution design, and, also very importantly, they will be able to tell you which requirements are not feasible within the platform you have chosen.
This will allow you to make critical design choices before spending a lot of money on trying something that would never have worked.
